PECORARA

Description
Old estate of Bobbios monastery, Pecorara is a small village, spread on the hills dominating Tidoncello Valley. Its name derives from sheep breeding, but nowadays its main economical resource is agriculture.

The astronomical observatory is in Lazzarello di Pecorara,785 m above sea level, in an isolated spot far from photopollution. Built by Gruppo Astrofili di Piacenza in collaboration with the municipality and some private benefactors, the observatory promotes the diffusion of astronomy among lay people, but also enthusiasts about astronomical sciences and schools. 

Pecorara is part of the Four Provinces (Alessandria, Genoa, Pavia, Piacenza), characterised by common traditions and customs made of ancient music and dance.
