Добро пожаловать на официальный туристический инфосайт Провинции ПьяченцаScudo Piacenza

Even though Giuseppe Verdi was born in Roncole, a small village in Busseto, the great musician always had a close liaison with the city of Piacenza and its territory. His family came from Piacenza, going back at least six generations and his mother, Luigia Uttini, came originally from Saliceto of Cadeo, in the province of Piacenza. In 1848 he settled on the estate of S. Agata, in  Villanova sull'Arda, on the banks of the Ongina river, where, between 1851 and 1883, he composed some of his greatest works (Rigoletto, Trovatore, La Traviata, Aida, Otello).

Verdi, however, was not only active in the musical sector: he was also an administrator of the municipality of Villanova, between 1870 and 1880, and a member of the Council of the Province of Piacenza between 1889 and 1890. He fully funded the Foundation of Villanova Hospital, inaugurated in 1888. At his death, he left part of his agrarian funds  to the Hospital and  part of his revenues, to Cortemaggiore nursery school. He also established that 20 lire were distributed, to one hundred poor people in Villanova,  each year on 10th of November.
